Re-shaping Contact Lenses

It is possible to achieve clear vision without wearing glasses or contact lenses during the day.  It’s called Orthokeratology or Ortho K.

Ortho K uses a specific rigid gas permeable contact lens design that are worn overnight while you sleep.  In the morning, you remove the contact lenses and your vision is corrected without the need for glasses or contact lenses during the day.

Ortho K is suitable for people with mild to moderate short sightedness (myopia).  It can also be used to correct astigmatism.

Your optometrist will take a topographical map of your cornea – that’s optometrist speak for mapping the curve of the front of your eye.  We use a specialist piece of equipment called a topographer for that purpose.

The process will take a few nights of continuous wear to achieve maximum correction.  Your optometrist will need to see you a few times within the first week or two to ensure correct fit and effectiveness.

The cost of Ortho K lenses is comparable to a year’s supply of soft contacts, and one set will usually last around 2 years.

Ortho K is offered only at our Macquarie Street practice in Hobart.
